Inlays and Onlays at Blockhouse Bay Dental Centre

Illustration of inlays and onlaysTeeth with small or moderate cavities can usually be restored with advanced tooth coloured composite resin, but composite resin isn’t durable enough to mend large cavities. If you do have a larger cavity, then we will recommend an inlay or onlay.

What Is an Inlay or Onlay?

An inlay or onlay is used to repair larger cavities affecting the chewing surfaces of your back teeth. An inlay restores only the middle part of the chewing surface, while an only is bigger, restoring the chewing surface plus one or more tooth cusps (the raised points on your teeth).

How are Inlays and Onlays Made?

Your inlay or onlay can be fabricated from gold or porcelain. Both are equally as durable. Porcelain will provide you with a nearly invisible restoration which looks fantastic. Blockhouse Bay Dental Centre can provide beautiful Emax porcelain inlays and onlays, usually while you wait, using our advanced CAD/CAM technology.

These restorations are precision-made to the very highest standard and are strong and long-lasting. With CAD/CAM technology your tooth is digitally scanned, so there’s no need to have a messy impression. Once scanned, our dentist digitally designs your restoration, and the design is transmitted to our milling machine. Your restoration is made from a solid block of porcelain before being hand-finished and glazed. The final step is to try in the restoration and bond it permanently in place.
